PublicWorks Department
is responsible for construction and maintenance of Roads and Buildings in the
state of Assam. The main function of the PWD is to plan, design, construct and
maintain the Roads and buildings in the state. The department also looks after
the National highways passing through the state on behalf of GOI. |
|

For the smooth functioning of the organization and to give more stress on development work, Assam P.W.D. had been divided into two wings
viz. (1) Roads and (2) building in the year 1977. The Assam P.W.D. (Bldg) is basically an agency to execute the Building and its ancillary works of all Govt. Departments, Govt. undertakings, or voluntary organizations.

The Roads wing looks after
construction and maintenance of State Highways, Major District Roads, Other
District Roads and Village Roads. Responsibility of construction and maintenance
of some of the National highways are under the control of National Highways wing.
